At Mapleridge Children & Adult Dentistry, we are committed to the dental and total health of our patients. We strive to help every patient achieve and maintain a beautiful, healthy smile, and we work hard to provide comprehensive dental treatment to accomplish that goal. As important as the treatments we provide in the office are, though, equally important is the care you take of your teeth outside the office – and that means more than just brushing and flossing! While you may not know it, your diet affects the health of your teeth, and incorporating foods like these help to keep your teeth strong, beautiful, and healthy.

Foods to Improve Dental Health

  • Cheese: Low-fat cheeses contain calcium, a mineral that’s critical to the health and integrity of your teeth, and eating them helps provide your body with calcium to keep teeth strong. Additionally, cheese can neutralize acids in the mouth, helping to protect your teeth from corrosion.
  • Apples & Carrots: Both of these foods are rich in fiber and have a high water content. Eating these foods produces saliva in your mouth, which washes away bacteria and food particle, reducing your risk of cavities.
  • Milk: Similar to cheese, milk can help to neutralize acids in plaque, and drinking some milk after eating is more effective at cleaning the mouth than just rinsing with water.
  • Cranberries: Cranberries contain chemicals called polyphenols, which prevent plaque from sticking to teeth. This helps to safeguard your teeth from acids and decay caused by bacteria and plaque, but be sure to wash your mouth afterwards, and cranberries also contain sugars and acids that can harm teeth.
