For example, if you experience temporomandibular joint disorder, also known as TMD, we are happy to explain this condition to you in greater detail, so you can better understand what you are experiencing.
Temporomandibular joint disorder occurs as a result of problems with the jaw joint and surrounding facial muscles directly related to chewing and moving the jaw. TMD can be very painful and can make it very difficult to eat or speak. Females are at a higher risk for TMD than males, and the most people experience it between the ages of 20 and 40. Other risk factors include the following: tooth grinding, arthritis, and stress.
In certain cases, symptoms of TMD only last for a short amount of time, but it is also possible for symptoms to last for several years. The following is a list of symptoms that people with TMD experience:
A great place to begin is to focus on the risk factors. If you hold an excessive amount of stress, focus on ways to lower stress levels such as meditation, yoga, or setting aside time for deep breathing practices. If you grind your teeth at night, our dentists can have a personalized mouthguard made for you to wear when you are sleeping. We are also more than happy to speak with you personally about your situation and offer unique tips for you.
When it comes to your dental health, you shouldn’t have to settle. Our office is committed to providing you with the best care that will set you up for a lifetime of happy, healthy smiles.
